HealthMed2 is a total wellness program administered by healthcare
professionals to help their patients achieve and
maintain their healthy weights. HM2 is based on mainstream research
from recognized organizations such as the American Medical
Association; American Diabetic Association; National Institutes of
Health; National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute; and many more.
for a summary of the selected recommendations from the Expert
Panel on the Identification, Evaluation, and Treatment of Overweight
and Obesity in Adults published by the NHLBI and supported by
HealthMed2.) HM2 is not a quick-fix, fad diet program; but rather a proven
lifestyle program of empowerment and behavior change.
The name HealthMED2
implies that there are a pair of M's,
E's, and
D's,
which represent the following core principles of the program:
Participants in HM2 do so under the supervision of a
healthcare professional called a Provider. Providers not only help
their patients fully use the HM2 website, but also offer additional
services like follow-up office visits, classroom instruction, and so
forth.
HM2 participants register and receive an initial Personal
Profile Report, reflecting their current health status and
outlining their exercise and diet goals. This report is adapted and
approved by their provider. Through HM2's online Meal
Planner and Exercise Planner
functions, participants enter their daily nutrition and exercise
information, which is subsequently summarized for them via HM2's Reporting
function. Management reports are also available to providers so that
they can manage groups of patients concurrently enrolled in HM2.
Self-empowerment and real-time feedback are fundamental to HM2.
For this reason there is an extensive balanced Curriculum
covering vital nutritional, behavioral, and technical topics.
Continual feedback comes through the participant's daily
interactivity on the website and detailed reports.
Feedback monitoring tools for home
use, such as a food scale, heart
rate monitor, body fat scale, and pedometer, are also used under the
provider's direction for maximum long-term success and behavior
change.
There are two basic levels of participation within HealthMed2
called Program Options. These
options provide a cost-effective entry point with follow-up maintenance
which can be extended for as long as necessary,
depending on individual participant's needs and circumstances.
